Monster cereals are full of childhood nostalgia for me, and I'm sure for many others. I love getting a box or two each year for my kids now and they look forward to them every year.
This year, we saw a new Monster Cereal called Carmella Creeper™that is a caramel apple flavor. Of course we had to try it and it inspired me to make a batch of Monster Mash-Mallow Cereal Bars since Carmella is a DJ Zombie.
Carmella Creeper™ made delicious flavored cereal bar treats. The caramel apple flavor is also a great flavor for fall.
You can use any of the monster cereals that you like in this recipe though. Count Chocula™, Franken Berry™, and Boo Berry™ can all be used instead. Some years you will find other flavors available as well.
I love the green color of this cereal for Halloween and the color is
another reason I decided to make these cereal bars with the caramel
apple flavored monster cereal. That green is super fun and fitting for a zombie.
Making Monster Mash-mallow Cereal Bars
These cereal bar treats are so simple to make. They are just like treats made from crispy rice cereal, but made with monster cereal instead.
This recipe only requires cereal, mini marshmallows, and butter. You also need some cooking spray to keep them from sticking to the baking dish. These cereal bars don't require any baking, and they are quick to make.
In a large pan, heat the butter until melted. Stir in a bag of mini marshmallows until melted.
You can do this step in a large microwave-safe bowl as well using the microwave. Heat the butter until melted and then stir in the marshmallows. Heat for about 30 seconds intervals and stir until melted and smooth.
Once the mixture is all melted and smooth, remove from the heat and stir in the cereal. Do this step quickly. It's best to have the cereal measured and ready to go. Spread into a greased baking dish.
Then you will need to press the cereal mixture down into the dish in an even layer. It will be very sticky, so use either a piece of wax paper or a wooden spoon that has been sprayed with a little cooking spray. Cool and cut into squares to serve.
Monster Mash-mallow Cereal Bars were a big hit with my kids and some of their friends. They've already asked to make them again with a different monster cereal.
These monster cereal bars are best eaten within a couple of days. Cover them loosely with plastic wrap (not in an airtight container) to help keep them fresh and not too chewy.
Give these monster cereal bars a try this Halloween! They are sure to make fans of monster cereal smile and are super easy to make for a Halloween party, movie night, or kids' gathering.
