Blackberries and blueberries are mixed with a touch of cinnamon and topped with a Jack Skellington pie crust face for a fun and festive Halloween pie.
Welcome to another edition of #HalloweenTreatsWeek! I'm so excited to share some new Halloween recipes this week and to see what all of the other bloggers are sharing as well. Halloween and fall are my favorite time of the year.First up is this Jack Skellington Boo-berry Pie (a blackberry and blueberry mix in the filling). You may remember that last year I made these Individual Jack Skellington Cheesecakes and they were a big hit! This year I made a larger Jack and my kids (and I) loved him.
This pie is made with a mix of blueberries and blackberries because I wanted the pie filling to be as dark as possible. You can use all of one berry though, or really any pie filling you like. The dark berries just help to give the face more contrast. The berries are sweetened up with some Dixie Crystals sugar and I add a bit of cinnamon for a nice fall touch.
The trick for this pie is taking your time to carefully cut out Jack's face in the top crust. The photo below shows step by step how to cut the face using a small, sharp paring knife. I looked at multiple photos on the internet and used those as a guide for cutting the face and cut it in free hand.
This dessert will make a fabulous Halloween dessert for all the fans of The Pumpkin King or to serve while watching The Nightmare Before Christmas with your family.

Jack Skellington Boo-Berry Pie
Ingredients
- double recipe for your favorite pie crust (or store bought)
- 2-1/2 cups blueberries
- 2 cups blackberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 heaped cup cornstarch
- 1 egg
- coarse or turbinado sugar, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix together the berries, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch in a medium pot. Heat over medium heat until bubbling, reduce, and cook until slightly thickened, stirring often. Set aside.
- Roll and fit the bottom crust to a standard 9-inch pie plate. Use a fork to gently poke some holes into it.
- On a well-floured chopping mat or flexible cutting board, roll out the top pie crust. Use a sharp paring knife to cut out the eyes, nose holes, and make the mouth. Make these in the center of the pie crust leaving enough extra around the edges to crimp to the bottom crust.
- Spread the prepared berry filling into the pie plate with the bottom crust.
- Carefully transfer the top crust to the pie plate. Carefully press together and seal the top and bottom crusts, while pulling off any extra dough.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a splash of cold water. Brush a thin layer onto the top pie crust. Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 45-55 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let cool completely before slicing to allow filling to set.
I hope you give this Halloween pie a try! Let me know in the comments below.
