A crisp and refreshing slaw made with kohlrabi, radishes, carrots, and a sweet poppy seed dressing. This slaw is a delicious summer side dish and perfect with cookouts and picnics.
Kohlrabi is a cultivar of wild cabbage and is a cruciferous vegetable family along with cabbage, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, and others. You may have seen them popping up at your local farmers' market or in your CSA boxes this year. They are a delicious vegetable that you can eat both cooked and raw.
After you remove the leaves and peel off the skin, you are ready to use your kohlrabi. You may find them in both green and purple. I used green for this recipe.
I paired the kohlrabi with another popular vegetable this time of year - the slightly spicy radish. Along with sweet carrots, and a sweet poppy seed dressing, these flavors all combine into one delicious slaw.
Serve this kohlrabi and radish slaw along side any cookout, barbeque, or picnic foods. It's versatile and pairs with everything from grilled meats to deli sandwiches. I love slaw with barbecue chicken and baked beans.
