We love fries around this place - I make baked white potato fries a lot, but sweet potato fries are also popular in our house and I like that my kids usually will eat sweet potatoes this way.
Baked sweet potato fries are easy to make and a delicious side dish. All you need to do is peel and slice these into fry shaped sticks and then bake with olive oil until cooked through and golden.
Serve along with any meal you'd normally have fries. Sweet potato fries go well with burgers, pulled pork, and especially with sloppy Joe sandwiches. Their sweet flavor really compliments a lot of meals.
The dipping sauce is optional, but highly encouraged. It's made from a mayonnaise base with additions of maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, and spicy brown mustard. If you don't want to use the spicy brown mustard, a regular or grainy Dijon mustard will also be delicious.
If you don't want to make the sauce or don't have the ingredients, try giving these sweet potato fries a drizzle of honey and a sprinkling of salt when they come out of the oven instead.
Sweet potatoes are something that can be enjoyed all year round. They store well and are readily available in the grocery store. We always have a bag of them in the pantry. They are a great staple to keep around and can be enjoyed in so many ways.

How to cook Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Creamy Maple Mustard Dipping Sauce
- Mix all the ingredients into a small bowl until well combined. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Drizzle one tablespoon of olive oil onto two baking sheets. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into long fry-like shapes (as best as possible as sweet potatoes are often oddly shaped).
- Place about half the sweet potatoes on each baking sheet. Bake for about 7-8 minutes on the lower third of the oven. Flip the sweet potatoes and bake for another 7-10 minutes, until they are soft and golden.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with salt. Serve with the chilled sauce.
