Peach season is something I look forward to every summer. It's a bittersweet time of year because I know it means the end of the summer is coming, but there's so much wonderful produce.

My husband works up in peach farm country and we always end up with a lot of them once their peak hits this time of year. We eat them as much as we can, but some of them end up needing to be sacrificed into a dessert or two....
Since I've been absolutely loving making ice cream this summer, I thought I would make a peach one. Then I decided to give my first frozen yogurt a try. I absolutely loved this yogurt.
The peaches were very ripe and since they were in season, they were so flavorful - which made the yogurt incredibly peachy. I added some nutmeg to give the yogurt a little more depth of flavor. The yogurt was very creamy and slightly tangy - making this dessert very palate pleasing all around.
If you find yourself with a couple extra peaches, please try out this recipe. It will make about 1 quart of frozen yogurt.
Peach-nutmeg frozen yogurt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
pinch of fine sea salt
1-3/4 cup plain whole milk yogurt
1/4 cup whole milk
Combine the peaches, sugar, nutmeg, and salt in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10 minutes, until the peaches are softened and the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and let cool.
Combine the yogurt and milk in a metal bowl. When the peaches have cooled, stir them into the yogurt. Cover the bowl and refrigerate until very cold, at least 4-5 hours. Then churn and freeze in your ice cream maker according to directions. You can eat it right away (it will be like soft serve), or transfer to a freezer container to harden for a few hours.
I used to not like peach but actually really like it now. I would like it even more in frozen yogurt form :)
ReplyDeleteYum! I love peach frozen yogurt. This homemade version looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteNutmeg sounds like a really interesting addition. My ice cream maker hasn't actually come out this summer although you keep tempting me...
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. I can't believe I haven't made anything with peaches. Soon peach season will be over..
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really need to buy an ice cream maker!!
Peach and yoghurt is by far my most favorite yoghurt flavor.. They hadn't made nutella and yoghurt work, till then, peach yoghurt is still my fav! If only I had an ice cream machine.. (i'd gain 10 pounds but wouldn't mind)
ReplyDeletethis looks fantastic, i love the nutmeg in here!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I especially love the addition of the nutmeg--it must be so delicious. I need to get out and get some peaches before they're gone!
ReplyDeleteI can't restrain myself when it's peach season either - I had a massive peach from the farmers' market near my work for lunch today! I've saved this recipe, too... yum.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I didn't even know peaches were in season this time of year! This looks great... do you think I could get away with using skim milk though? MMMMMM :)
ReplyDeleteYou could try (at least for the small amount of milk that's in this). I wouldn't use low-fat yogurt though unless it's really thick. It may not set-up well and won't be as creamy in texture - it may form more ice crytals (plus some good dairy fat is good for you :-)
DeleteLucky you, living in peach territory. They tend to come to Ireland unripe and rarely fulfil their sweet juicy potential. I'm going to try your lovely icecream as cooking should coax the flavour from less-than-perfect specimens and I love the touch of nutmeg.
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of peaches and nutmeg, especially in frozen yogurt or ice cream! Delicious.
ReplyDeleteI love peach season too! Nutmeg is a really yummy match for peaches. This looks luscious!
ReplyDeletethis looks amazing will also miss peach season
ReplyDeleteOh Amy, this peach frozen yogurt looks delicious...and the addition of nutmeg sure enhance its flavors...

What an excellent flavour. Love those tantalizing chunks of peach in there...
ReplyDeleteBrilliant use of those yummy peaches. I bet this fro-yo is heavenly!
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely! Love the addition of nutmeg.
ReplyDeletePeaches and frozen desserts are two of the best things about summer--so this sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeletei usually don't give spices other than cinnamon a chance, but i can see how a little nutmeg would perfectly complement those luscious peaches!
ReplyDeleteAmy...of all the peach desserts I've had this summer, I've yet to have peach ice cream! I love that you added the unexpected nutmeg for depth of flavor! This looks luscious! : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect use of those peaches! I've never made frozen yogurt before even though I tend to like it more than ice cream. Need to get on that!
ReplyDeleteFrozen yogurt is one of my favorite uses for fresh peaches. Love the addition of nutmeg!
ReplyDeleteI use nutmeg because I love its flavor. This is such a tasty combination!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this just sounds and looks awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really going to miss peach season!
ReplyDeletei might have gone cardamom, but nutmeg also sounds delicious!! YUM. great way to celebrate peach season :)
ReplyDeleteCardamom sounds good, but I had used it too recently when I made pistachio-cardamom ice cream :-)
DeleteI love peaches! what a delicious combination!
ReplyDeleteI love the peach-nutmeg flavor combo! Well done :)
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you that I have the same bowls :) I get most of my dishes from thrift stores for my blog props :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Peach and yogurt in one snack? By eating this combination of vitamins C & A, selenium, and antioxidants, you’re definitely giving your body a favor by allowing it to expel all the toxins. Kudos for this healthy, homemade yogurt!
